DC Event: VIP Screening – THE POLITICS OF FASHION: D.C. UNBOXED {June 3, 2014}

THE POLITICS OF FASHION: D.C. UNBOXEDSince moving back home a little over a year ago, most of my free time is spent exploring the fashionable side of D.C. and blogging about my “fab finds”.  Just this past week, I was told by someone visiting from L.A. that there’s no fashion scene in D.C.  I must say that I totally disagree.  While our nation’s capital may not compare to New York or L.A.’s fashion industry, it still holds its own.  Apparently, I am not the only one who feels that way.  Elaine Mensah, the Director and Producer of D.C.’s first fashion documentary The Politics of Fashion: D.C. UNBOXED, will give us a first-hand look at the unexpected fashion landscape in Washington D.C.  The film will introduce some of the city’s fashion and creative influencers, industry power players, young talent, and entrepreneurs who are defying the odds of working, owning and running successful fashion businesses.  Elaine is Founder of creative + strategic fashion firm SVELTE, LLC, and specializes in business + brand consulting, creative campaign development, and brand growth strategy for the fashion industry.  She is also the Regional Director-Elect of Fashion Group International DC and Thought Leader for DC fashion news site All Things Fashion DC, a site I visit often.  (Note to self: I must meet this amazing woman!)

The Politics of Fashion

The trailer has me super excited to see more!  Tickets are selling fast to the VIP Screening of The Politics of Fashion: D.C. UNBOXED at AMC Theaters Mazza Gallery in Friendship Heights on June 3, 2014.  Visit thepolitcsoffashion.com for more details and to buy your tickets.  I’ll be there with my good friend Ehmonie from What’s Haute and Handbag du Jour!  Unfortunately, the VIP tickets were sold out.  I will write a follow-up post with highlights of the film.

Store Opening: kate spade new york at citycenterdc

katespade-nowopen

kate spade new york has a new home in the heart of downtown D.C., a posh area now referred to as CityCenterDC.  The grand opening was Friday, May 16th.  The store is located at 994 Palmer Alley NW (10th St NW between H & I).  Store hours are Monday – Saturday 10:00am to 8:00pm and Sunday 12:00pm to 6:00pm.  It’s a short walk from Metro Center.

As luck would have it, I was walking by the kate spade new york store this morning, fantasizing about what it would be like to work there, and decided to snap a few pictures of the colorful window display.  Coincidentally, the store manager was out front (timing is everything!!) so we briefly chatted about the new and amazing space.  In the next week or two, I will feature the inside of the CityCenterDC store and all of my fab finds!
